My client is an established design and manufacturing organisation owned by a multinational PLC, and has long been producing some of the finest precision equipment for use in the healthcare industry. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with an excellent grounding in manufacturing & production to join the team. In this Design Engineering position you will bridge the gap between design and manufacturing, so you must be comfortable creating manufacturable designs, as well as have previous experience in getting things into full scale production.

The role will consist of some exciting NPD projects, as well as some key customisations to products where there are manufacturing or quality issues. These products contribute massively to the health and wellbeing of the whole population, and this role presents a fantastic opportunity to join a company with a glowing reputation.

 Key responsibilities: 

  • Design and implement customised iterations of existing products based on key account input and customer requirements
  • Performing critical analysis of new designs for robustness, manufacturability and quality including supplier liaison for tooling
  • Contribute to annual cost reduction targets by improve designs/processes
  • Generate or update test reports and documentation required to support regulatory activities
  • Maintain control over product bills of materials and manufacturing structures

Key Skills: 

  • Engineering Degree 2:1 preferable but an HND with good experience will be considered
  • 3+ years commercial experience in a manufacturing environment
  • CAD – SolidWorks
  • Design for manufacture – injection moulding, sheet metal, machined parts
  • Materials knowledge – plastic and metals
  • Understanding of mechanism or moving part design
  • Highly regulated industry experience would be beneficial
  • Ability to take a design into full scale production

The salary for this position is up to £40k + benefits depending on experience.
